Quick answer
Why is my car AC blowing warm air?
The most common causes are low refrigerant from a leak, a failing compressor or compressor clutch, a blocked condenser, a cooling fan that is not running or an electrical fault in the controls. Adding refrigerant without finding the leak only buys time, so the system should be checked first.
Weak or slowly warming air
Often a slow refrigerant leak or a blocked condenser. Not urgent, but have it checked soon, since running low on refrigerant is hard on the compressor.
Grinding noise or burning smell
A loud grind when the AC kicks on can mean the compressor is failing, and a burning smell can mean a seized clutch or slipping belt. Turn the AC off and have it checked.
Common causes
Common reasons AC or heat stops working
Cooling and heating problems usually come from one of these. Testing tells us which one before anything is replaced.
-
Refrigerant leaks
The system is sealed, so low refrigerant means a leak at a hose, seal, condenser or evaporator.
-
Compressor or clutch
The compressor moves refrigerant through the system. When it or its clutch fails, the air stays warm.
-
Condenser and cooling fans
Debris or a fan that does not run keeps the system from shedding heat, especially at idle.
-
Blower motor and resistor
Air that blows only on some fan speeds, or not at all, points to the blower circuit.
-
Cabin air filter
A clogged filter cuts airflow and can leave a musty smell in the cabin.
-
Heater and coolant
A heater that stays cold often traces to low coolant, a stuck thermostat or a clogged heater core.
How it works
How we get your AC working again

FAQ
Questions drivers ask
How often should my car AC be checked?
There is no single schedule. Have it checked when cooling drops off, airflow weakens or you notice a smell. In Florida, many drivers have it looked at before the summer heat arrives.
Why does my car AC smell musty?
Moisture on the evaporator can grow mold and mildew, and a dirty cabin air filter makes it worse. Replacing the filter and cleaning the system usually clears it up.
Is it safe to drive with the AC not working?
Usually, yes. The exception is a compressor that is grinding or seized, which can damage the drive belt that also runs other parts. If you hear grinding, turn the AC off and have it checked.
Why is my heater blowing cold air?
Common causes are low coolant, a thermostat stuck open, a clogged heater core or a blend door that is not moving. We check the cooling system and controls to find which one it is.
Do you repair AC on all makes and models?
Yes. We diagnose and repair AC and heating on all makes and models, foreign and domestic, including cars, trucks and SUVs.
